Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has accepted the nature of their Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and wants his players to react when Cadiz visit the Camp Nou on Sunday night.

The Blaugrana lost 4-1 at home to the French giants in the first leg of their last-16 tie, so they have a mountain to climb when they next play in Paris on March 10. Before that, though, Koeman is keen for his Barcelona players to continue their good run in LaLiga Santander.

“It’s true that after a defeat, it’s good to have another game to show that we can get a good result,” Koeman said during Saturday’s pre-match press conference.

“We have to keep going. We have a good record. We have ambition. We know what happened to us and we have to react.”

Barcelona are still in three competitions, but their chances of listing silverware seem to be fading by the week. They lost 4-1 to PSG in the Champions League, lost 2-0 to Sevilla in the Copa del Rey semi-finals, and they are nine points behind LaLiga Santander leaders Atletico Madrid.

“We are still in all three competitions,” the Dutchman stated.

“The Champions League is very difficult. In the Copa, with more luck and being clinical, we can come back. I believe in getting through the knockout stages.

“In LaLiga, it depends on whether the top team [Atletico] drops points. I’m not so negative. We are Barcelona. The main objective is every game.”

Erling Haaland is a name that has been linked to Barcelona in recent days, despite the club’s crippling financial state, yet the coach has said that he will wait for the new president to come in before discussing his future plans.

“I have my ideas for the future of the club. I have to wait until there is a president, sit down and talk about the future,” Koemansaid.

Gerard Pique was rushed back from a knee injury to play against PSG in midweek and Koeman says that he is feeling fine.

“He is fine. We did well to let him play 60 to 65 minutes,” he noted.

“He had no problems afterwards. He’s had a rest and he’s available [to face Cadiz].”

There was an incident that hit the headlines after the PSG result, as footage emerged of Pique and Antoine Griezman arguing before a corner came into the box. The Barcelona boss doesn’t mind it, though.

“During a match there is a lot of emotion,” Koeman explained.

“It’s good to have people who react and are not happy. You’re not going to ask please… during the match there’s no problem with these things happening, I like it… then you have to talk and get along… you have to try to do your best to win a match. I don’t like them to be quiet.”
