Tragedy struck in Anambra State as Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere, the son of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Women Leader, Esther Chinyere, was abducted and later killed by unknown gunmen.

The businessman and Managing Director of Fish Magnet Outlet was kidnapped on the evening of Saturday, July 27, 2025, at his residence in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, within the Awka area of the state. The assailants reportedly shot him in the leg before whisking him away to an undisclosed location.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that Onyekere’s lifeless body was later discovered by a joint security team of Police and Anambra Vigilante operatives. His navy blue Toyota Corolla was also recovered along the Ukwulu/Igbariam road.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD, has ordered all tactical and intelligence units to intensify their efforts in tracking down the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” the police statement read.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers had trailed the victim before launching the violent assault that led to his abduction and death. The gruesome killing has sparked outrage and fear among residents of Awka.

CP Orutugu condemned the act and assured the public that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice. “The Police owe it to the family, the people of Anambra, and the memory of the deceased to ensure those responsible face the full weight of the law,” he stated.
