Kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N70 million from the family of a lecturer in Zamfara State, Abdulrahaman Adamu following the abduction of five members of the family.

Five relations of Adamu, who is the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Federal University, Gusau (FUGUS), were abducted on Wednesday at Damba Quarters, a community on the outskirts of Gusau.

A family source who spoke on condition of anonymity told Channels Television that the kidnappers had contacted the family and demanded N70 million.

It was learnt that the gunmen carried out the attack early on Wednesday.

Those kidnapped by the assailants were identified as the ASUU chairman’s younger brother, niece, nephew, and two of his wife’s younger sisters.

“Five of them and one Abbas Umar who is his (Adamu’s) neighbour and also a staff member of the Bursary Department, Federal University Gusau,” an eyewitness said while identifying those abducted.
