Kidnappers demand N600m ransom for abducted Katsina couple and their daughter

Gunmen who abducted a couple and their daughter in Katsina State have demanded N600m as ransom.

 

 

 

Anas Ahmadu, 33; his wife, Halimat and their daughter, Jidda, were abducted at their residence in Filin Canada Quarters in Sabuwar Unguwa area of Katsina metropolis on Tuesday morning, August 26, 2025.

 

 

 

 

A vigilante member identified as Abdullahi Muhammad, 25, was shot d3ad while attempting to rescue the victims against the attackers who fled the scene before the arrival of security operatives.

 

 

 

A family source, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the latest development to Daily Trust on Wednesday, August 27.

 

 

 

The source said Anas’ phone number was used to contact the wife’s uncle, Malam Ibrahim, to demand ransom.

 

 

 

 

He said the kidnappers were told that the family could not afford the amount demanded.

 

 

 

 

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, said the Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, visited the scene, deployed additional resources for the prompt rescue of the victims and arrest of the perpetrators.

 

 

 

“On Tuesday, August 26, at about 0300 hrs, some suspected gunmen armed with weapons attacked the residence of one Anas Ahmadu, m, age 33, of Filin Canada Quarters, Katsina State, kidnapping him, his wife, and daughter, one Jidda Anas,” the PPRO stated.

 

 

 

“Also, the hoodlums fatally shot one Abdullahi Muhammad, m, age 25, of the same address, a member of the local vigilante, and escaped the scene before the arrival of police operatives.

 

 

 

“Upon receipt of the report, the DPO quickly rushed to the scene, restoring normalcy in the area as investigation commenced with a view to tracking and arresting the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

 

 

 

 

“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, Bello Shehu in company with the command’s management team, Area Commander Metro, DPOs within the metro, as well as the command’s OC Anti-Kidnapping, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. He then deployed additional personnel and assets to ensure the prompt rescue of the victims and arrest the perpetrators.

 

 

 

“Furthermore, the command calls on members of the public to at all times report suspicious and criminal activities to the nearest police station or make use of the command’s emergency line for prompt and decisive action against all forms of criminal activities.

 

 

 

“We further call on anyone with useful information to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation. All information given will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.”
