Kano Governor Orders Probe into Transport Commissioner’s Alleged Role in Suspected Drug Baron’s Bail

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the alleged involvement of the State Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, in the controversial bail of a suspected drug trafficker, Sulaiman “Dan Wawu”.

The move comes amid growing public outrage following reports that the Commissioner’s name appeared in documents purportedly used to facilitate the suspect’s release from custody.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the state government assured residents that the matter is being handled with utmost seriousness and transparency.

“Any attempt to shield individuals suspected of sabotaging the fight against drug-related crimes will not be tolerated,” the statement read.

Special Investigative Committee Constituted

To ensure an impartial inquiry, Governor Yusuf has constituted a special investigative panel chaired by Aminu Hussain, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters.

Other members of the committee include:

Hamza Haladu

Hamza Nuhu Dantani

Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud Umar

Maj. Gen. Sani Muhammad (Rtd.)

Kabiru Said Dakata

Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota – Secretary

The committee has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and submit its findings without delay.

Zero Tolerance for Abuse of Office

While unveiling the panel, Governor Yusuf expressed grave concern over the potential abuse of public office by political appointees, warning that his administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy on drug trafficking and related crimes.

“Let it be known that our administration will not condone any act that compromises the safety and wellbeing of our citizens. We are fully committed to the fight against drug trafficking and abuse, and anyone found culpable—regardless of their position—will face the full weight of the law,” he declared.

As of press time, the Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, has not issued an official statement in response to the allegations.

The case centers on Dan Wawu, a suspected drug baron who was recently arrested on narcotics-related charges. His sudden release from custody, allegedly aided by political interference, has sparked widespread concern and criticism.

The investigation comes as the Kano State Government intensifies its crackdown on drug abuse, trafficking, and youth-related criminality—issues Governor Yusuf has repeatedly identified as major threats to public safety and the future of the state.
