The Kaduna State Police Command has clarified the circumstances behind a viral video showing a man breaching security during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to the state, describing the individual as mentally unstable and emotionally overwhelmed.
In a statement released Friday, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Mansir Hassan said the incident took place during the President’s official engagement at Murtala Square, Kaduna.
The individual, identified as Umar Mohammed, a resident of Unguwan Mu’azu, reportedly suffers from psychiatric disorders and is known locally to be of unsound mind.
“He was screened and admitted into the stadium as an APC supporter, wearing party T-shirts and holding banners with the President and Governor’s images,” the statement said.
According to the police, Umar breached the security barrier in a sudden emotional attempt to get closer to the President, whom he had long admired. He was quickly restrained and arrested by inner security personnel. No weapon or harmful item was found on him.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, cautioned the public against spreading false or politically motivated narratives, noting that the trending video had been doctored and misrepresented to stir unrest.
“The matter is under investigation, and anyone caught spreading misinformation will face prosecution,” the police warned.
The command urged residents to remain calm, avoid panic, and continue cooperating with law enforcement to ensure peace and order in the state.
