As the global conversation around media influence deepens, the 8th Kaduna International Film Festival (KIFF) returns this year with the compelling theme: “Film for Social Change.” This edition not only celebrates cinema as a powerful storytelling medium but also embraces its transformative potential for individuals and communities.
Highlighting the pervasive influence of media, festival organizers emphasized that modern life is increasingly shaped by the stories we consume—whether through films, social media, or online content. Citing American filmmaker Robert Altman’s perspective that “filmmaking is the opportunity to live many lifetimes,” the festival is calling on creators to wield their craft responsibly and impactfully.
“Our lives are becoming a reflection of every story, every post we’ve ever seen. Creators hold the power to become drivers of the future,” a festival representative noted. “The script, the camera, the edit suite—these are instruments of change.”
To encourage impactful storytelling, this year’s edition, in partnership with Lipton, will feature a short film competition. Young filmmakers are invited to submit a short film (maximum of 10 minutes) centered on how friends or families share stories over breakfast with Lipton. Winners will receive special gift items and recognition during the festival’s closing ceremony.
Empowering 200 Youths Through Skills Acquisition
In addition to its cinematic focus, KIFF 2025 is also launching a skills acquisition programme targeted at empowering 200 youths with practical, income-generating skills. Training areas include:

Festival Director Audu, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Film Festivals Association, expressed deep appreciation to the Kaduna State Government, under the leadership of Governor Senator Uba Sani, for their unwavering support and dedication to youth and creative development.
“We appeal to stakeholders, investors, and the government to support film festivals like KIFF. These platforms serve as vital meeting points for creatives and filmmakers to collaborate, showcase their work, and scale their impact globally,” Audu said.
As anticipation builds for KIFF 2025, the message is clear: film is not just entertainment—it is a vehicle for education, empowerment, and lasting change.
