A father of 11, Lawal Hamisu, has asked a Shari’a Court in Kaduna State to compel his 27-year-old daughter, Fatima Lawal, to get married.
Hamisu, through his counsel, H.B. Debo, told the Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari that his daughter, who holds a Higher National Diploma (HND), has reached marriageable age but has not presented a serious suitor despite having several admirers.
He urged the court to direct her to find a suitable husband and oversee the marriage, alleging that her mother had influenced the children against him.
In her defence, Fatima told the court that she currently has no serious suitor, explaining that while she has admirers, none has formally proposed marriage.
Presiding Judge, Malam Yakubu Abdullahi, described the matter as delicate because it involves a father and his daughter. He said he would hold separate discussions with both parties to better understand the issues before offering guidance.
The judge subsequently adjourned the case until August 3 for further proceedings.
