The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, is set to administer the oath of office to the newly appointed Supreme Court Justice, Justice Joseph Oyewole, on Wednesday, February 25, at 2:00 pm in Courtroom Two of the Supreme Court Complex, Abuja.
The apex court recently experienced a reduction in its bench due to the retirement of some justices upon reaching the mandatory retirement age. Prior to his elevation, Justice Oyewole served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal and was the Presiding Justice of its Enugu Division. His appointment reflects the judiciary’s commitment to strengthening the bench with experienced and dedicated jurists while upholding the rule of law.
In a statement on Sunday, Dr. Festus Akande, Director of Information and Public Relations of the Supreme Court, highlighted that Justice Oyewole’s extensive legal expertise and integrity will further enhance the court’s ability to deliver fair and timely judgments.
The statement also emphasized that the inauguration represents a continued effort to rejuvenate the judiciary, maintaining high standards of competence, impartiality, and integrity. Guests invited to the ceremony are required to comply strictly with the court’s security protocols and procedures.
“The Supreme Court of Nigeria remains steadfast in its commitment to justice, fairness, and judicial independence for the benefit of all Nigerians,” the statement concluded.
