June 12: Kogi residents ignore democracy day protests, celebrate indoors

There is relative calm across Kogi State despite the widespread anxiety over the June 12 nationwide protest.

UGAMATV reports that some strategic locations in Lokoja the Kogi State capital on Saturday had no sign of protests.

People were seen going about their daily activities peacefully as our correspondent who monitored the situation in the state reports.

However, some streets visited in Lokoja such as Ganaja junction, Zone eight, Barrack, Gadumo, Felele, Lokongoma, Adankolo, and Nataco, showed a very thin population in terms of human and vehicular movement as many decided to stay indoors.

At the Lokoja Confluence Stadium, sports Men and Women were seen playing football and doing other fitness exercises.

It was also the same in Ajaokuta Local Government and other parts of the state as security forces were on patrol in a motorcade, blaring sirens.

DAILY POST reports that the State Government had on Friday warned those planning to stage a protest to desist or face the wrath of the law.

The State Security adviser Commodore Jerry Omodara at a news conference said no group of persons indicated interest to protest in any part of the state
