The Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD), Enugu State Chapter, has called on Governor Peter Mbah to inaugurate the State Disability Commission, citing the Enugu State Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities Prohibition Law of 2023.
The association noted that this commission would provide a platform for persons with disabilities to have their voices heard, ensure inclusion in policy-making, and promote accessibility in public services.
“We again call on the government of Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to uphold the principles of democracy by inaugurating the Enugu State Disability Commission,” it said in a statement issued on Thursday by its state chairman, Comrade Onyebuchi Mba.
The association emphasised that disability inclusion is essential for a truly democratic society and looks forward to working with the government of Enugu State to build a more equitable and just society for all.
“We reiterate that disability inclusion is essential for a truly democratic society,” Mba said. “We look forward to working with the government of Enugu State to build a more equitable and just society for all.”
The group also called for institutional and intentional inclusive policies and accessible infrastructure in the provision of democratic dividends, as well as representation and participation of persons with disabilities in decision-making processes.
