
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state and a former Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu has graced the Thanksgiving/Retirement Service of Major General Edward Nze, UGAMATV reports.
Major General Edward Nze (Rtd) had on Sunday 27th of December, 2020, Celebrated his retirement from the Army after a complete 35 years of active service.
In the course of his well decorated career as a very distinguished Military Officer, He has held the following positions:
Second in command – Guards Brigade Signals, Officer Commanding Radio Squadron-57 Signal Command, Officer Commanding- Nigeria Army Signal Headquarter Squadron
Officer Commanding – B Squadron 55 Signal command,
Second in Command – 55 Signal Command, Senior Instructor – ATS Wing; Nigeria Army Signal School,
Chief Instructor – ATS Wing; Nigeria Army Signal School,
Commander – 58 Signal Command, Signal Rep – Nigerian Army Armoured Corps and School Bauchi, Deputy Director Electronic Warfare: Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Deputy Director Electronics Protective Measure – DHQ, commander 59 Div Signal – 81 Div NA, Deputy Director Training – DHQ,
Deputy Commandant – Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre Jaji, Director of Communication – DHQ, Director of Policy Nigeria Army

Given that Major General Nze strongly believes in the inexhaustibility of knowledge and learning, he has repeatedly
beaten his own record by the numerous courses he attended and his insatiable quest for knowledge. He has attended among many other courses such as;

He has attended seminars and workshops at local, national and international levels which include African Communication Interoperability Endeavor in Libraville – Gabon, International Telecommunication Union Preparatory Meeting Geneva, Disaster and Crisis Management Training in California USA and Global MILSATCOM Workshop in London in 2015. To say Major General Nze’s career is one adorned with medals and honours would be tantamount to simply stating the obvious, and as they say, who the cap fits, let him wear it.
And he didn’t just wear them, he wore them humbly with a disposition that says I am but a willing tool in the hands of the Almighty and in the service of Mankind.
His Military Decorations includes, but not limited to these honour which are only symbolic of sterling performance he exuded in the face of adversity FSS, MSS, DSS, FCM, GSMH, Psc and fdc.
Major General Nze rose steadily in ranks.

He was a Lieutenant in June 1986, and promoted to a Captain effective June 1990, He was further promoted to the rank of a Major in June of 1994, a Lieutenant Colonel in June 2001 and a Colonel in June 2005. He became a Brigadier General in December 2012 and a Major General in November 2014. Well-deserved honours!
The event which started with a Catholic mass at St. Paul Catholic Church Ezere Awgu LGA of Enugu State, Experienced the gracious presence of dignitaries, the Likes of the Enugu state Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and Deputy Minority leader, house of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu amongst others.
Subsequently, the reception was taken to the School field of Community primary school, Ezere.
Amid his Congratulatory speech, Sen. Ekweremadu stated that Major General Edward Nze is a living legend, a clear example of the possibilities of great attainment.
“He is a proof that the Igbo man can get to great heights through Constituency and hardwork. I am personally proud of all you have accomplished. I thank the good Lord for bringing you to this prestigious level in your career.”
“I trust that even though you have retired from active service in the Nigerian Army, I am sure you will carry on with your dedicated Service to humanity.”, He said.
Major General Nze (Rtd) while appreciating his Guests in his vote of thanks, expressed his immense gratitude to God.
“We were about 150 while enrolling into the Nigerian Defense academy, on graduation we were 35 qualified officers. At some point, we lost lost of our colleagues at Sierra Leone, Liberia and other places in the Course of discharging our duties.”
“But God in his infinite mercies and wisdom kept me through every step up until my retirement. I return all the glory to him. Thank you for Celebrating with me, may God continue to bless and protect us all.”, He concluded.
