– JAMB has updated candidates about the 2021 UTME registration

– The exam body explained why registration was temporarily halted

– Candidates are advised to adhere to JAMB’s instruction during the registration process

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has resolved the technical hitches relating to the registration of candidates for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) into tertiary institutions.

JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, stated that registration has now fully commenced, The Guardian reported.

He said:

“It was only put on hold to resolve the technical hitches. Registration is now in full swing.”

Fabian stated that some candidates had successfully registered for the examination.

The commencement of registration was also confirmed by The Cable.

We recall that JAMB postponed the registration for the 2021 UTME and DE due to the inability of candidates to create their profiles.

Meanwhile, JAMB has explained why it introduced the use of the National Identity Number (NIN) for the registration of the 2021 UTME.

The registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, on Friday, March 26, said the new policy will help checkmate examination malpractices.

Speaking at a virtual meeting with owners of Computer Based Test Centres and service providers, Oloyede further disclosed that the use of NIN for the UTME was also for security reasons.

In another report, the West African Examination Council (WAEC), Nigeria has announced that the 2021 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will take place from August 16 to September 30, 2021.

The announcement was made by WAEC’s head of public affairs, Demianus Ojijeogu, via Twitter on Friday, April 9.

He explained that the examination could not hold during the usual May/June period because of the disruption to the school calendar caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The spokesperson dismissed claims that WAEC earlier announced a postponement of the examination.

Still on education news, JAMB has paraded two of its staff for extorting potential UTME candidates.

The affected staff, Andy Okoro, an officer in JAMB’s Delta state office is accused of collecting collected the sum of N500,000 from four candidates’ parents with the promise to help them secure university admission.
