ITS NOT PROPER TO KILL OUR PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY CAME OUT TO LOOK FOR WHAT TO EAT- EKWEREMMADU SAYS, URGE YOUTHS TO EMBRACE DIALOGUE

The Former Deputy President of the Senate, and senator representing Enugu west senatorial zone,  Prof. Senator Ike Ekweremmadu has called on Igbo Youths to always embrace Peace and Dialogue in resolving issues around them.

The senator made this call while speaking during a Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES ) tagged ‘A Day with Ikeoha Ndi Igbo’ by the Catholic Youths Association St Theresa’s Parish Abakpa Nike Enugu last Sunday. He further stated that violence never solves any problem stressing that even the World Wars all ended in a round table.

The lawmaker who recently convened a meeting of South East political leaders in the National Assembly to strategize on how to secure the release of the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kalu called on IPOB members and Igbo Youths to reconsider the Sit –at- home order imposed on Igbo Land every Monday adding that no amount of sit- at- home order will release the IPOB leader from detention or achieve Biafra.

He went on to trace the origin of Sit- at- Home order which he said originated from Southern Cameroun about Ten (10) Years ago.  According to him, “this sit- at- home order originated from the people of Southern Cameroun who wanted Independence and thought that by locking down the entire Southern Cameroun they will granted independence.

“They have done that for Ten ( 10) years now and the result is that nobody goes to school anymore in Southern Cameroun and yet they did not get the Independence. It is wrong to be inflicting injury on yourself and expect that it is paining your enemy

“It is time to change strategy and embrace Peace, dialogue and negotiation. Any strategy to stops our people from going out to look for what they will eat or stops our children from going to school is counterproductive and unacceptable. Any strategy that instills fear and intimidation on our people is counterproductive, any strategy that creates the impression that investments in the South East are not safe is anti people and totally unacceptable”, he said.

Ekweremadu maintained that “Our enemies are already laughing at us because we appear to be doing the ‘job’ for them. Time to change the strategy is now. The choice we make are sometimes good and sometimes hurting but there must be a time for review. The decision to sit- at- home need to be reviewed now.

“It is not proper to punish our people or sometimes kill them because they came out to look for what they will eat. We know that our people are being marginalized but it is wrong to be adding salt to injury by shutting down their businesses. Nooo, that strategy has to change.  You cannot be protecting and killing at the same time. There is need to embrace peace, dialogue and negotiation and the time is now”, he concluded.
