An Israeli drone strike on Tuesday claimed the lives of a Lebanese father and son in the southern village of Shebaa, according to Lebanon’s health ministry and the state-run National News Agency (NNA). A second son was also injured in the attack.
The Lebanese health ministry confirmed the incident, stating: “An Israeli enemy drone carried out a strike in the village of Shebaa, killing two people and wounding one.” The victims were reportedly members of a local family who were outside when the drone hit.
The Israeli military has not yet issued a response or statement regarding the strike.
This deadly incident marks another escalation in violence despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024, which was intended to halt hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.
Tensions have continued to rise in the region following an Israeli air raid on southern Beirut last week—a move Lebanese officials condemned as a clear violation of the truce. Hezbollah, supported by Iran, claimed the strikes destroyed nine residential buildings. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described the action as a “flagrant violation” of the November ceasefire deal.
Last Friday, Israel issued a warning that it would persist in targeting Hezbollah sites across Lebanon, despite growing international concern over civilian casualties. That warning followed Israeli airstrikes on alleged Hezbollah drone production facilities in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
The Shebaa strike comes just days before Eid al-Adha, intensifying tensions in a region already on edge amid continued conflict and political instability.
