Hon. Toby raised a brilliant motion on the urgent need to investigate the status of medical and pharmaceutical research centres in the fight against covid-19  in Nigeria. The  motion was seconded by Hon. Chinedu Oga representing Izza South Federal Constituency .

Hon. Toby reads “The House note the corona virus pandemic and its related consequences on our people and various economies around the globe. The house further note that out of about 4 million confirmed covid-19 cases world over, Nigeria has witnessed over 6000 confirmed cases and about 191 deaths”.

Rt. Hon recounted the effect of other dangerous infectious diseases such as Lassa Fever and Ebola had on the people.

“The house is worried that the Corona Virus remains a disease of public importance in Nigeria associated with high mobility and mortality. In the Motion Rt. Hon Toby stated in the motion that the House is conscious that Nigeria endowed with qualified and talented scientist; the house is also mindful who are capable of developing indigenous cure for the disease. The House is further aware of the need of a methodological approach by the Federal Government in providing effective, coordination, supervision mandate and funding for intense medical research for cures of the diseases and for local production of essential medical supplies used in the fight against the disease in the country”.
