The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has announced the dates for the commencement of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
The announcement follows INEC’s earlier declaration that the Osun governorship election will hold on August 8, 2026.
During a meeting with Electoral Officers (EOs) held on Monday in Osogbo, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Mutiu Agboke, disclosed that the CVR will begin in two phases—online registration starts on August 18, 2025, while physical, in-person registration kicks off on August 25, 2025.
Dr. Agboke explained that the meeting was convened to assess the preparedness of Electoral Officers and deliberate on operational issues related to the CVR exercise.
“This meeting is a platform for internal review and alignment of strategies before wider engagement with stakeholders. We need to understand the current state of our operations and be mentally and logistically prepared for the task ahead,” he said.
He stressed the importance of evaluating the reality on the ground, including infrastructure, logistics, and staff readiness at INEC offices across the local governments.
“We intend to thoroughly assess the condition of our local government offices and the performance of our officers to ensure smooth operations,” he added.
Dr. Agboke commended the Electoral Officers for their resilience in maintaining functional offices despite various challenges and praised their commitment ahead of the voter registration exercise.
In response, the Chairman of the Osun Electoral Officers Forum and EO of Ifelodun Local Government, Abdulkadir Azeez, expressed appreciation to the REC for his leadership style and dedication.
He assured that all Electoral Officers in Osun are ready for the CVR, saying, “We have been preparing and are confident the registration process will be seamless. I can vouch for the competence and commitment of every EO in the state.”
