INEC Raises Concern Over 31,690 Unclaimed PVCs in Anambra

As Anambra State gears up for the 2025 governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that 31,690 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain uncollected in the state—a concerning figure ahead of the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

According to INEC data from 2023, the state has issued a total of 2,624,764 PVCs. However, with the current number of registered voters standing at 2,656,437, the commission anticipates a significant increase in voter participation once the new registration period begins.

The CVR is a routine electoral process designed to accommodate eligible Nigerians who have yet to register, as well as those seeking to update or transfer their registration details.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, recently confirmed that preparations for the exercise are in their final stages, particularly in view of the fast-approaching governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

“We are aware of the urgency to commence the CVR, particularly given the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State,” Yakubu stated. “We want to assure Nigerians that we are finalising our preparations for both activities, the details of which will soon be made public.”

In a related development, INEC on Wednesday released the final list of candidates for the election and formally announced the commencement of election campaigns.

With thousands of PVCs still awaiting collection and more voters expected to be registered during the CVR, the state’s total voting population could see a substantial boost before election day.
