Imo varsity students demand justice for colleague allegedly killed by soldiers

The Students of Imo State University, Owerri, have asked the army to identify and prosecute the soldiers who allegedly shot and killed a student of the institution, Divine Nwaneri, on Sunday in front of the Imo State government house in Owerri.

Nwaneri, 24, was allegedly shot dead by suspected military men who were guarding the government house when she and her friends were driving through the area.

The killing of the one hundred level student of Soil Science and Biotechnology had since generated condemnation from the members of the public.

On Tuesday, the Students Union Government and National Association of Agricultural Students of IMSU condemn the killing.

They described the killing of the undergraduate as provocative, unwarranted, and utterly condemnable.

They, therefore, called on the leadership of the military, the ministers of Defence and Education, to ensure that Nwaneri got justice.

The SUG president of the university, Arinze Oguike, said that the students demanded that the trigger happy soldiers be identified and persecuted.

The student leader also stated that the students demanded that the medical personnel at the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, who he said played negligent roles the night the undergraduate was rushed to the hospital should also be identified and persecuted.

Oguike said, ” We totally regret the loss of our beloved sister, Miss Divine Nwaneri, who was murdered in cold blood by men of the Nigerian Army on April 25, 2021.

“We call on men of goodwill, including the Chief of Army Staff, the Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University, the Ministers of Defence and Education to ensure that Divine gets justice even in death. This is one death too many.”
