Immigration officers, Ibadan LG boss trade accusations over attack

The Ibadan North Local Government chairman, Shuaib Oladayo aka Agbaegbe, and officers of Nigeria Immigration Service are trading accusation over a fight which reportedly happened between officers of the agency in Oyo State and the chairman and his aides.

Sources close to the chairman claimed on Wednesday that the council boss and some of his aides were thoroughly assaulted by some Immigration officers at the headquarters of the command in Oyo State.

They said Agbaegbe had gone to the office in company with some of his aides after he was told that some persons were using forged letter head of the council to perpetrate fraudulent activities there.

They said the chairman, two councillors and his media aide and photographer who went there were challenged and harassed immediately they stepped on the premises.

One of the sources said, ” The chairman, two councillors, media aide to the chairman and his photographer had gone to verify what they were told.

“But some of the officers challenged him at the entrance and that led to an altercation. Immediately the chairman entered with his people they were assaulted. He was even slapped and the place became rowdy.

“They even licked them inside and sis not allow them to leave the Immigrtaion office but the news of what happened there got to the council and some staff and others stormmed the Immigration office to ensure the release of the chairman.”

However, some officers also claimed that the politicians stormmed the office with hoodlums and attacked officers they found there injuring many of them.

They said the chairman went to the Immigration office to collect Nigerian passport for his friend and he was told to move away from where he was .

They said that led to an altercation and it degenerated into a free for all. They claimed that hoodlums were brought in by the council boss to attack the place.

The Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, Olufemi Adetunji, when contacted via WhatsApp also told our correspondent that he could not talk on the incident now because he was still receiving treatment due to the injuries he sustained from the alleged attack on the office by the chairman’s loyalists.

The NIS PRO said,” I can’t talk on this tonight as I’m treating myself from injuries I sustained from their attack. There may be press release tomorrow.”
