Former Democratic Republic of Congo winger Yannick Bolasie has openly criticized FIFA’s governing consistency following the contentious decision to overturn American striker Folarin Balogun’s red card suspension just ahead of the USA versus Belgium World Cup clash.

 

 

The debate ignited after FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee deferred Balogun’s mandatory one-game suspension, placing the forward on a one-year probationary period under Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. The highly unusual administrative maneuver cleared the 25-year-old forward to spearhead the American frontline for the critical Round of 16 knockout match on Monday.

 

 

 

Taking to his official X account, Bolasie used the unprecedented ruling to highlight what he views as a glaring double standard in how global football authorities and international media judge different regional tournaments.
