ICPC recovered N1.1bn, seized 29 buildings, 13 businesses – Chairman

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission has said over N1.1bn was forfeited to the Federal Government between January and March 2021.

The Chairman of the commission, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, stated this while briefing the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes Committee, led by Senator Suleiman Kwari, while on oversight visit to the ICPC on Thursday.

Owasanoye said N418.8m and $1.5m in domiciliary accounts were also forfeited to the Federal Government in the first quarter of this year.

He added that the anti-graft agency seized five plots of land, 13 businesses, 29 buildings, one vehicle and five farms.

ICPC boss said, “Seventy-three cases were filed in 2020, while only 11 cases have been filed between January and March 2021.”

He explained that the agency secured 26 convictions in 2020 and four convictions in the first quarter of 2021.

The chairman of the Senate committee said, “I appreciate the chairman and board members for the job well done; we also commend what you have been doing for the nation.”

He assured the ICPC that the Senate was ready to give the agency necessary support to do more.
