I don’t see the level of hunger Nigerians are complaining about – Presidential media aide, Bayo Onanuga

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has stated that he does not understand why Nigerians are complaining of hunger.

Speaking on the current economic climate, Onanuga questioned the basis for the widespread public complaints regarding food scarcity and the rising cost of living.

To support his claim, the presidential aide noted that feedback from his personal staff indicates that the economic situation remains manageable.

Speaking on Arise News last night, June 23, Onanuga said

“In the early days of this government, the President went to Lagos, and he was coming from the Central Mosque, and someone did a voiceover saying, ‘ We are Hungry o!!!” Since then, people have been saying that. I am a Nigerian. I have people working for me privately. I don’t see the level of hunger people are talking about because I see them, and I keep asking them questions. How are things? How are they adjusting? What are the problems?”

When the interviewer stated that government officials seem to live lavishly while asking masses to ‘’tighten their belts’ and manage economically, Onanuga responded, saying even the Ministers have also had to ‘’tighten their belts”. According to him, some Ministers are running their offices with their personal funds.

‘’That is not totally true. Let me tell you a story. Today, after a meeting, I spoke with the Minister of Finance. It will shock people that some Ministers come into office to serve. Some of them have been using their personal funds to run. Some of them.”he said
