“I almost quit music and moved abroad after Mo’Hits ended” — Don Jazzy opens up

Nigerian producer and music executive, Don Jazzy, has revealed that he almost gave up on music after the sudden collapse of Mo’Hits Records in 2012.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the Mavin Records boss shared that the split between him and D’banj left him so discouraged that he considered relocating abroad.

“When Mo’Hits ended, I thought that was it. I almost packed up to move abroad. But friends encouraged me to stay and start again, and Mavin Records was born. Since then, I’ve learned not to let anything break me,” Don Jazzy said.

The music mogul added that the experience shaped him into a stronger person, helping him handle future challenges better.

After Mo’Hits dissolved, Don Jazzy went on to build one of Africa’s biggest record labels — Mavin Records — nurturing both old and new stars like Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Rema, Ayra Starr, Reekado Banks, and Johnny Drille.

In 2024, Universal Music Group acquired a majority stake in Mavin Global — a deal that cemented Don Jazzy’s legacy as one of Africa’s most successful music entrepreneurs.
