We all want to be respected but most people don’t know how to earn respect

You need respect yourself first

It goes without saying that people treat you exactly the way you treat yourself. Earn respect by being proper in all your deeds and dealings and people will naturally respect you.

Set clear and enforceable boundaries

You should make it clear that certain things are not allowed around you or in your space. It’s your life and your space so only what you allow should happen.

Stop apologizing too much

There is a thin line between trying to play safe and being stupid. When you apologize to someone who mistakenly poured coffee on you; you are being fair to yourself.

Don’t ever give people the impression that they can dominate you.

Never!!!

Use a confident body language

Always stand tall, make eye contacts when you talk to people or making a statement.

Stand up for your opinions and beliefs

Your life, your opinion.

Don’t let people regularly interrupt you

To gain more respect; If your comment gets ignored or interrupted, you can say:

• “Just a second, I’d like to finish my thought.”
• “Excuse me, we got off tracked. What I was saying was that ___________.”
• “Like I was saying before, ___________.”
• “Please, let me speak.”

I don’t even know why people do that, it is so rude

Keep your temper and anger in check

Control your anger; If you get to a point where you feel like beating up someone then take a walk. Catch some air and visit the matter again when you are calm.

Present yourself properly

Dress well, i can do a full article on the importance of dressing well. Knowing that people address you the way you are dressed should be enough to make you dress well.

Be respectful to others

Do Unto Others…. You need to respect people too. No much explanation needed here.

Own up to your own mistakes

Admit when you are wrong; just admit it. First of all, you are human so you are not above mistake. Apologize nicely and move on.

Avoid over-sharing

Unless we are very close; I don’t care about your sexcapades or your family history. Do not over-share, it might be used against you later.

There is no respect in over-sharing.
