Hope at the Doorstep: Obi Ebere Chukwu Awgu Health Mission Foundation Touches Hundreds with Free, Life-Saving Care

The Obi Ebere Chukwu Awgu Health Mission Foundation (OCAHMF) has once again reaffirmed its commitment to accessible healthcare with a successful end-of-year Health Outreach that brought relief, hope, and healing to hundreds of residents of Awgu and its surrounding communities.

The December 2025 outreach, held on Saturday, December 13, at the Joint Primary School, Awgu, attracted a record-breaking turnout as community members trooped out to benefit from free medical services delivered by a team of seasoned health professionals.

The programme opened with prayers led by Rev. Fr. Ethelbert Uduji, Project Coordinator II, who conveyed the goodwill message of the Foundation’s Coordinator, Rev. Fr. Amobichukwu Kingsley Ude. He reiterated the Foundation’s unwavering resolve to ensure that no resident of the greater Awgu province dies from preventable illnesses due to lack of funds or access to quality medical care.

In his address, the Chairman of the December 2025 Health Outreach and Patron of the Foundation, AIG (Dr.) Stanley Kanayochukwu Ude, represented by Comrade A.C. Ude, emphasized the sustainability of the Foundation’s medical interventions. He urged beneficiaries to maintain decorum, assuring them that adequate drugs and medical consumables were available to guarantee a smooth and hitch-free exercise.

Providing further assurance, the Chief Medical Consultant of the Foundation, Dr. Okoh Alphonsus, disclosed that OCAHMF deployed a team of nine medical consultants alongside other healthcare professionals. The team offered a wide range of services, including general consultations, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, malaria and HIV testing, eye screening and treatment, prescription services, and free dispensation of medications and medicated eyeglasses.

The outreach recorded remarkable achievements, with about 400 patients receiving free consultations and treatments for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and malaria. Over 200 patients benefited from free malaria treatment, while more than 100 individuals received eye screening and treatment for eye conditions including cataracts, glaucoma, and conjunctivitis. In addition, over 100 medicated eyeglasses were distributed, significantly improving the vision and productivity of beneficiaries.

Community leaders, including the Omelali of Olikwu Community, Godwin Ivo, and the Omelali of Uhegu Community, Joseph Amaefule, expressed deep appreciation to the Foundation for bringing quality healthcare directly to their people. They described the outreach as a game-changer and offered prayers for divine protection and continued success for the Foundation and its partners.

Beyond treatment, the outreach also served as a platform for health education, with sessions on hygiene, healthy nutrition, and disease prevention. The programme witnessed strong youth participation, with many young people expressing interest in volunteering for future health missions.

Beneficiaries shared emotional testimonies on the impact of the outreach. A middle-aged woman diagnosed with hypertension said the free medication had greatly improved her wellbeing, while a young mother noted that the health education she received would help her better protect her family from malaria. A 45-year-old man who received medicated eyeglasses joyfully remarked, “I can see clearly now and work without straining my eyes.”

The Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Jideofor Kingsley Aniude, described the outreach as a resounding success and a clear demonstration of OCAHMF’s mission to improve healthcare outcomes in Awgu province through community-based interventions.

As the Foundation looks ahead, it has called for sustained support, increased awareness of preventive healthcare, strategic partnerships, and the expansion of its services to include more specialized medical care.

With its December 2025 Health Outreach, the Obi Ebere Chukwu Awgu Health Mission Foundation has once again proven that compassionate, community-focused healthcare can transform lives and restore hope—one patient at a time.
