Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo Honored with 23rd Rootswatch Distinguished Local Government Chairman Merit Award

Agwu Local Government Area, Nigeria – Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, the Executive Chairman of Agwu Local Government Area, has been named one of the distinguished winners of the 23rd Rootswatch Distinguished Local Government Chairman Merit Award 2025. This recognition honors his exemplary leadership and significant contributions to infrastructural development within the communities he serves.

 

The selection process for this esteemed award involved a nationwide call for nominations, broadcast across various radio and television platforms. Following a thorough collection and scrutiny of public votes by the Rootswatch Awards Committee, Hon. Okolo emerged as a standout candidate. The committee commended his exceptional performance in several key areas, including community empowerment, the “Water for All” initiative, agricultural advancements through the Awgu Smart Farm project, and his commitment to transparency and good governance.

 

Among Hon. Okolo’s notable achievements is the successful drilling and commissioning of multiple solar boreholes, ensuring access to clean drinking water for residents. He has also overseen the installation of solar street lights across various communities in Awgu, as well as the Ongoing construction and rehabilitation of roads leading to smart schools and farm estates. His initiatives have included launching vocational training programs that empower local communities, earning him recognition as the driving force behind the “One Day, One Project” mantra embraced by the Awgu people.

 

The official award letter, signed by Chief Bayode Ojo ANIPR, Editor-in-Chief of Rootswatch Magazine, praised Hon. Okolo’s unwavering dedication to public service and his role as a catalyst for positive change within society.

 

The award ceremony, which promises a range of exciting prizes, will take place at a formal event chaired by Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA). Distinguished Senator Patrick Abba Moro, Senate Minority Leader, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour.

 

The Rootswatch Distinguished Local Government Chairman Merit Award is part of Rootswatch Magazine’s ongoing initiative to celebrate visionary, people-first leadership at Nigeria’s grassroots. Hon.
