Herdsmen attacks: Ohanaeze disowns reported call for Mbah’s resignation

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has distanced itself from a demand for the resignation of Enugu State governor, Barr Peter Mbah.

Ohanaeze youths was reacting to a statement published by SaharaReporters, credited to one Mazi David Ani, who asked Mbah to resign over the herdsmen attacks on Isi-Uzo local government area.

Mr Ani claimed to be chairman of Ohanaeze youths in Enugu State.

However, in a statement issued on Tuesday by the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, he described Ani as an imposter.

Okwu said such identity was unknown to Ohanaeze at any of its level.

According to him, “while we sympathise with the people of Isi-Uzo over the unwarranted attack by herdsmen, calling for the governor’s resignation is misplaced.

“We are aware that governor Peter Mbah has invested so much in security. He has shown capacity as the governor of Enugu State by providing the security agencies of what they need to police the state.

“Therefore, the security breaches should not be blamed on the governor but the high command of the various security agencies.

“We are all aware that governors are Chief Security Officers by nomenclature not in any application, as the security chiefs take orders from Abuja.

“It, is, therefore bizarre for anyone to pass the bulk to the governor. Those in charge of security should be held responsible.”

“We reiterate that the personality behind the resignation call, Mazi David Ani, is not known in Ohanaeze. It was purely scripted by mischief makers.”

Okwu, however, demanded detailed investigation into claims that a helicopter dropped off those who attacked the people of Isi-Uzo.
