*Health Minister Dr. Saloko Visits FUAHSE, Commends University’s Progress, calls for Integration of Theory with Practical Experience for Human Capital Development*

The Honorable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Saloko, on Wednesday, the 7th of May 2025, paid a one-day working visit to the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences Enugu, FUAHSE.

The Minister, during the visit,  embarked on a tour of the different Sections and facilities at the university for direct assessment of her activities.

The university hosted the Minister for inspection and commissioning of completed and ongoing projects and facilities, respectively.

The Vice Chancellor of FUAHSE, Prof.John Emaimo, and the university’s management team, alongside the UDUA Progressive Forum, warmly received the minister and his team.

This was followed by a presentation and blessing of Kola to the minister by the school’s registrar and the secretary of the university senate, Dr. Chris C. Igbokwe.

Together, they explored the campus and the facilities, where the minister commissioned various completed projects such as Dr.Iziaq Adekunle Saloko Block housing the university’s Library and ICT center, named after the honorable minister, and A 16-unit toilet facility.

The Honorable Minister also inspected various facilities under construction, such as the University’s Administrative block and the University’s Auditorium.

Also inspected during the visit were other functional facilities such as, mechanical and Biomedical Engineering block, the university’s medical center

A significant high point of the event was the special senate meeting of the university, during which the Honorable Minister was conferred with the honor of the distinguished fellowship of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences by the University’s VC.

Presenting an overview of the university at the meeting, Prof Emaimo highlighted some of the major progress made by the school in the areas of infrastructure and manpower development.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Saloko expressed satisfaction over the tremendous progress made by the school within 3months since it’s transition to full fledged university, He commended the university’s management while acknowledging the critical role of FUAHSE in Nigeria’s health sector, describing the university as unique.

Dr. Saloko also noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has prioritized the welfare of the health sector through increased budgetary allocation to provide comprehensive healthcare services to every Nigerian.

While addressing the challenges of workforce shortage, the minister stated that migration has posed a significant threat to the health sector, as many trained professionals leave the country for greener pastures. Dr.Saloko, however, charged the university management with the responsibility of professional manpower production to man the healthcare sector at all times.

The special senate meeting was featured by the presentation of an artwork from the Udua group to the minister, amidst musical entertainment.

In an exclusive interview with UGAMATV, Dr.Saloko commended the university’s positive strides in infrastructure and human resources production, emphasizing a trajectory in fulfilling the mandate of the founding fathers. The minister, however, charged the university to integrate the theoretical teachings with practical experience to achieve human capital development.

At the end of the visit, the Minister pledged the commitment of the present administration to providing support that will enhance the effort of the university to improve the overall health care service system in the country.
