Hausa Community Appeals for Better Living Conditions and Larger Settlement in Abia

The leader of the Hausa community in Aba,  Sariki Bello Shehu  II, has presented some challenges facing Hausa  traders and  other members of the community  in Aba, to the Abia State government.

Sarki Shehu, who led a delegation of his people to the Abia State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in  Umuahia on Wednesday, appealed to the State government to consider the development of a larger settlement along the Osioma axis to accommodate a mosque, market, schools and residential facilities.

According to him, the increasing number of worshipers often leads to traffic congestion during Friday prayers.

The Hausa leade,r who reaffirmed the support of his  people to the Abia State government, praised the intervention of Governor Alex Otti and his Chief of Staff, Caleb Ajagba  in a  recent security incidents involving Hausa traders in the State.

He called for improved urban planning to address the conversion of residential buildings into commercial facilities, and the expansion of affordable metropolitan transportation services within Aba.

Recieving the leader and members of the Hausa community in his office, Abia State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu commended them for their peaceful coexistence in the State.

He reassured them that the administration of Governor Alex Otti does not discriminate against tribes,   religion or social background, adding that every lawful resident would continue to enjoy protection, care and other welfare programs.

The Commissioner further said that the State government would always collaborate with stakeholders to sustain the peace, unity and overall development of the State.
