Suspected kidnappers have abducted a couple at Ilu-Abo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident reportedly occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Friday shortly after the couple returned home from their shop. Eyewitnesses said the attackers, who were armed, emerged from nearby bushes and accosted the victims in front of their residence.

The gunmen subsequently forced the couple into the bush and fled to an unknown destination, throwing the community into fear and confusion.

During the attack, a neighbour identified as Mr. Patrick Ilumaro, who was sitting outside his home at the time, was shot by the assailants. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Jimoh Abayomi, said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adebowale Lawal, has ordered the deployment of both tactical and conventional operatives to the area.

According to him, security personnel have commenced a thorough search of the surrounding bushes and adjoining communities to rescue the abducted couple unharmed and apprehend those responsible.

He assured residents that efforts are ongoing to secure the victims’ safe return and bring the perpetrators to justice, urging members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible and useful information to the nearest police station.
