Pep Guardiola has admitted that a shift in momentum cost Manchester City valuable points after they were held to a 2–2 draw by Tottenham Hotspur in North London.
City looked in full control at halftime after goals from Ryan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo gave the visitors a two-goal advantage. However, Tottenham responded strongly after the break, scoring twice in the second half to earn a share of the points.
Reflecting on the match, Guardiola said Spurs’ tactical adjustment changed the flow of the game.
“They put more players at the back, found a goal and after that the momentum changed,” the City boss said. “In some transitions they had control that we didn’t. It wasn’t a big issue, but it made the difference.”
Guardiola also played down the impact of the result on City’s Premier League title hopes, despite the draw leaving them six points behind leaders Arsenal.
“We are playing at a high level,” he added. “But we didn’t have the consistency to win games when others managed to do it. Fourteen games is a lot. The gap is six points. Next one.”
