Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the nation and a void difficult to fill.
In a heartfelt condolence message personally signed and released on Sunday, Governor Mbah paid glowing tribute to the late leader, extolling his forthrightness, patriotic service, and decades-long contribution to Nigeria’s political and public life.
“President Buhari made his entrance into Nigeria’s governance space in 1984 and returned in 2015. On both occasions, his pedigrees of truthfulness, integrity, and patriotism stood out,” Mbah noted.
He described the late President as a symbol of simplicity and selfless dedication, whose legacy offers a rich repository of lessons for future generations of Nigerian leaders.
“His unwavering commitment to the ideals of nationhood, his honesty, and his humility were rare virtues in our political space. His life was a powerful lesson that leadership must serve the downtrodden and promote development for all,” the statement read in part.
Governor Mbah praised Buhari’s military and democratic legacy, pointing to a career that remained “glittering and outstanding,” characterized by consistency, discipline, and a devotion to national unity.
“Although he leaves behind a void that will be difficult to fill, there is much comfort in the fact that his life was an inspiration, and his vast legacies are engraved in the sands of time,” the Governor wrote.
On behalf of the government and people of Enugu State, Dr. Mbah extended heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s family, the government and people of Katsina State, the Federal Government, and all Nigerians mourning the statesman’s departure.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the former President’s soul and strength for his loved ones during this difficult period.
Buhari, Nigeria’s Head of State from 1984 to 1985 and democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023, was widely regarded for his austere lifestyle, anti-corruption crusade, and unyielding approach to governance. He passed away at the age of 83.
