…Hon. Okolo urges Ndi Awgu to embrace farming for wealth creation and food sufficiency

The Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has called on Ndi Awgu to take farming seriously as a sustainable pathway to food security and economic empowerment.

Hon. Okolo made the call on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, during the flag-off ceremony for the distribution of farm inputs to farmers across the 11 wards of the local government, held at the Awgu Local Government Headquarters Secretariat.

Speaking at the event, the council boss commended Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his unwavering commitment to ensuring food sufficiency and agricultural revitalization across Enugu State. He noted that the governor’s inclusive governance and development policies have continued to inspire grassroots leaders and farmers alike to key into the state’s agricultural transformation agenda.

Hon. Okolo further urged farmers to take advantage of Governor Mbah’s agricultural drive and the enabling environment his administration is creating for agribusiness to thrive. He encouraged them to use the distributed inputs judiciously for a prosperous and productive farming season, stressing that agriculture remains the surest path to wealth creation, food sufficiency, and sustainable community growth.

In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Enugu State, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Victor Ngwu, reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to achieving food security and rural prosperity through strategic support for smallholder farmers.

The distributed inputs included fertilizers, herbicides, cassava stems, rice, and maize seedlings, aimed at boosting productivity and improving livelihoods across Awgu communities.

The event attracted farmers, traditional rulers, cooperative leaders, and key stakeholders who commended the council chairman for his continued efforts to complement the Mbah administration’s vision of a self-sufficient, economically vibrant Enugu State.
