Governor Caleb Mutfwang apologises to Igbos over role Plateau state played in civil war claiming they were

 

 

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has expressed regret over the role played by Plateau people during the Nigerian Civil War, apologising to the Igbo community and calling for lasting reconciliation.

 

 

The governor made the remarks during a meeting with Igbo leaders representing the 17 local government areas of Plateau State at the Government House in Jos. He acknowledged the painful history between both groups and urged everyone to focus on unity and shared progress. He also claimed that they were “deceived” into participating in the conflict.

 

 

Mutfwang praised the Igbo community for its longstanding contributions to the state’s economy and development, describing them as an important part of Plateau’s growth. He also noted that the state had remained welcoming to the Igbo after the civil war and recalled that some victims had previously received compensation for losses suffered during the conflict.

 

 

“I apologise to the Igbos so that we can put the past behind us and continue to foster unity. We have become one family because our people were deceived into going to war, and we regret it. We must close that chapter and move forward.

 

 

“We must unite. We want the Igbos to regard us as their brothers and sisters, and together we must create an enabling environment where everyone can prosper,” Mutfwang said. He further encouraged Igbo business owners operating in Plateau to invest in local talent by employing and mentoring young people.

 

 

“Nigeria is a great country, and no ethnic group has demonstrated the entrepreneurial spirit more than the Igbo. I encourage you to replicate that same spirit in Plateau. I also appeal to Igbo business owners to employ and train young Plateau indigenes,” he said.
