Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has lifted the suspension earlier placed on three key public officials in the state, following the decision of the Benue State House of Assembly to reverse its previous resolution.
The officials affected by the reinstatement include Maxwell Ogiri, Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area; Grace Adagba, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB); and Michael Uper, Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission.
UGAMA TV recalls that the governor had initially upheld the Assembly’s earlier resolution to suspend the three officials. However, following recent leadership changes in the House, lawmakers revisited the matter and resolved to withdraw the suspension, urging the governor to act in line with their fresh decision.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia acknowledged the Assembly’s new resolution and directed the immediate reinstatement of the affected officials.
The statement read: “In compliance with the resolutions of the House, His Excellency hereby directs the immediate reinstatement of the affected officials. He reaffirms his respect for the constitutional roles of the legislature and reiterates his administration’s resolve to continue working harmoniously with all arms of government in the collective pursuit of peace, progress, and good governance in Benue State.”
Governor Alia further charged the reinstated officers to see their reinstatement as an opportunity to rededicate themselves to public service. He urged them to uphold the highest standards of accountability, integrity, and transparency while diligently discharging their duties in the best interest of the people of Benue State.
The governor also extended appreciation to the citizens for their patience and understanding during the period of suspension. According to him, the support of the people remains crucial to the administration’s agenda of building a transparent, people-centered government that prioritizes peace and development.
Political observers in the state view the development as a reflection of the renewed cordial relationship between the executive and the legislature. The governor’s prompt action in lifting the suspension is seen as a demonstration of his willingness to respect constitutional boundaries and strengthen intergovernmental collaboration.
The reinstatement also highlights the dynamics of leadership within the Benue State House of Assembly, where recent shifts in power influenced the reconsideration of the officials’ suspension. The legislature’s reversal and the governor’s compliance underline the importance of dialogue, compromise, and mutual respect between both arms of government.
As the reinstated officials resume duties, expectations are high that they will not only consolidate their earlier efforts but also work to justify the confidence reposed in them by both the legislature and the governor.
Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance, pledging to continue steering the state toward peace, progress, and prosperity. He assured the people of Benue that transparency and accountability would remain central pillars of his leadership.
With this reinstatement, the Alia administration seeks to reinforce unity within government and assure citizens that their collective interest remains the top priority.
