In a bold move to strengthen governance and enhance service delivery in Enugu State, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah on Tuesday announced a strategic cabinet reshuffle, swearing in a new Head of Service and six commissioners, while reassigning three others to new portfolios.
The oath of office was administered by a representative of the Ministry of Justice, Chizoba Ogbodo, at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Enugu, in a ceremony attended by top government functionaries and families of the appointees.
The newly inaugurated officials include Dr. Godwin Anigbo as the new Head of Service; Engr. Benjamin Osita Okoh, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure; Prof. Benedett Ekwutosi Okoli, Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication; Enyinna Franklin Ogbonna, Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources; and Dr. Samuel Ogbu-Nwobodo, Commissioner for Trade, Investment, and Industry.
Also sworn in were Prof. George Ugwu as Commissioner for Health and Engr. Ben Collins Ndu Jr. as Commissioner for Water Resources.
In the cabinet realignment, Dr. Felix Nnamani, formerly in charge of Water Resources, was redeployed to the Ministry of Labour and Employment; Dr. Malachy Agbo moved from Human Development and Poverty Eradication to the Ministry of Information; while Engr. Gerald Otiji, the erstwhile Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, now oversees the Ministry of Housing.
Governor Mbah, while addressing the appointees, urged them to embrace urgency, excellence, and accountability, declaring that there would be no grace period for anyone to settle in.
“There will be no honeymoon period. You must hit the ground running. Our administration has raised expectations across the state and country. We are being watched, and we must deliver,” the governor asserted.
He emphasized that every ministry would be assessed based on set targets and measurable outcomes, stating, “We have key performance indicators, and we will constantly analyze your progress. You will be measured by results.”
The governor also called for synergy among the cabinet members, stressing the importance of collaboration over competition.
“We do not encourage working in silos. We champion teamwork because our accomplishments are not products of individual effort, but of united vision and execution,” he stated.
On behalf of the new commissioners, Dr. Ogbu-Nwobodo expressed deep appreciation to the governor for the trust reposed in them, pledging total commitment to the administration’s transformational vision.
“We are honoured by this responsibility and will not take it for granted. We promise to be loyal, diligent, and fully aligned with your legacy of impact and progress,” he said.
The ceremony was graced by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barr. Victor Udeh; other commissioners; senior aides; and spouses of the appointees.
This reshuffle, analysts say, reflects Governor Mbah’s unwavering focus on performance-driven leadership and marks another step in the administration’s quest for accelerated development across Enugu State.
