Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has revealed that he is under intense pressure from political figures to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mutfwang made the disclosure over the weekend during an event held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Jos.
The governor, however, reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, stressing that only God and the people who voted him into office can determine his political direction.
“It is true that they have been putting pressure on me,” he said. “But I told them that only two people can authorise me to change my party — one is the God of heaven, and the other is you, the people.”
His statement comes a few weeks after APC leaders in Plateau reportedly moved to block his possible defection.
During a recent stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, APC members unanimously endorsed a motion to prevent Mutfwang from joining their party. The motion was reportedly moved by Festus Fuanter, former Deputy National Secretary of the APC.
“We don’t want anybody coming to our party. You do your thing, and we’ll do ours,” Fuanter said at the meeting. He added that the APC remains confident in its strength ahead of the 2027 general elections and does not require external reinforcement.
Reacting to the development, Mutfwang said those rejecting his alleged defection were simply acting out of fear.
