The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued Nigeria’s first-ever Aerodrome Operational Permit (AOP) to the Gateway International Airport, Ilisan-Iperu, Ogun State. The landmark approval makes the facility the first airport in the country to secure this certification under NCAA’s enhanced regulatory framework.
In a related development, the Instrument Landing System/Distance Measuring Equipment (ILS/DME) installed on Runway 23 of the Gateway International Airport has been declared “totally satisfactory in all respects” by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) following a successful flight inspection conducted on September 4, 2025. This clearance grants the runway unrestricted use, enhancing safety and reliability.
Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, hailed the certifications as a validation of his administration’s vision to transform Ogun State into a hub of commerce, investment, and global connectivity.
“This achievement is not just for Ogun State but for Nigeria as a whole. The Gateway International Airport is a symbol of progress and a new benchmark for aviation infrastructure,” he stated.
The certifications position the Gateway International Airport as a game-changer in Nigeria’s aviation sector. Beyond ensuring safer and more reliable operations, the facility is expected to open direct international market access for farmers, create jobs for young people, and ease congestion at Lagos airports.
With these approvals, Ogun State has firmly placed itself at the forefront of aviation development in Nigeria, setting new standards for infrastructure, safety, and global competitiveness.
