Fuel Price War Erupts: Nigerian Stations Slash Petrol Prices After Dangote Cut

Nigerian filling stations have significantly reduced the price of Premium Motor Spirit barely five days after Dangote Refinery announced a downward review of its petrol gantry price.

A tour to filling stations in Abuja on Wednesday shows that MRS, AA Rano, and Bovas filling stations have reduced fuel pump prices. Accordingly, MRS adjusted its pump price to N739 per litre, down from N910; AA Rano to N840 per litre from N910; and Bovas to N865 from N910.

This means that filling stations dropped prices by between N45 and N171 per litre.

Meanwhile, Ranoil, Empire Energy, and other filling stations across the country have remained unchanged at N910 and N912 per litre as of Wednesday.

Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited retail outlets, such as those along the Kubwa Expressway, were out of supply as of the time of filing this report.

On the other hand, checks showed that the ex-depot fuel price for Dangote Refinery stood at N703 per litre, Pinnacle at N703, and Bovas at N708.

The development comes days after Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Refinery, said that the country’s fuel price should not be more than N740 per litre.

The billionaire businessman’s comment triggered a price war within the country’s downstream oil sector.

Recall that Dangote Refinery last week reduced its gantry petrol price to N699 per litre from N828.
