The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured full international scholarships for nine of its officers to pursue Master’s degree programmes at Rashtriya Raksha University, Gujarat State, India.
The institution, a premier national security and police university under India’s Ministry of Home Affairs, will host the Nigerian officers for two years in specialised fields including Police Administration, Cyber Security, and Disaster Management.
According to the FRSC, the scholarships cover tuition, accommodation, and feeding, marking the first time such a comprehensive opportunity has been obtained for its personnel.
Announcing the development in Abuja on Thursday, the Corps’ Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, described it as “an unprecedented milestone in the history of Nigeria’s paramilitary landscape,” and credited the achievement to the leadership of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed.
> “This is more than a scholarship. It is a generational legacy of knowledge transfer, innovation, and global relevance for the FRSC,” Ogungbemide stated.
The Corps also recalled that in March, some of its officers had benefited from the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme, another capacity-building initiative of the Indian government.
It added that the latest scholarships further underscore the Corps Marshal’s commitment to staff welfare, digitisation, and capacity development, while positioning Nigerian road safety personnel to compete and contribute globally.
Stakeholders in the road safety sector hailed the initiative, describing it as a boost for international collaboration and Nigeria’s human capital in road safety management, security intelligence, and digital transformation.
The nine officers are expected to resume studies in India later this year.
The landmark scholarships not only strengthen FRSC’s human resource base but also place Nigeria on the global map of innovation-driven road safety management.
