Former Minister of Agriculture, Abba Ruma dies in London

Former Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, Dr.Abba Sayyadi Ruma, died on Wednesday morning at 59

Ruma from Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State was a Minister under the late President Musa Yaradua.

Family sources said the late Minister died in a London hospital, although the cause of his death were yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

His Uncle, Alhaji Sada Salisu Ruma, who is Danwairen Katsina confirmed the development.

He was also appointed Minister of State in the Federal Ministry of Education in 2005 under Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, and in 2007, he briefly became Federal Minister of Education when Ezekwesili took up a world bank job.

The late Minister was Chairman of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, with Headquarters in Rome, Italy, and was also a Partner Minister of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO.

Until his death, Ruma was the founder of Cherish International School and Health Sciences located in Batsari, with campuses in Katsina.

Ruma was born on March 13, 1962, and was survived by two wives and nine children.
