FG rolls out plans for disbursement of 753 houses recovered from Emefiele

The Federal Government has disclosed plans for the disbursement of 753 housing units recently acquired through forfeiture by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, disclosed this on Monday, May 26, at the inauguration of the board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) in Abuja.

According to the minister, the houses were handed over to the Ministry of Housing under the directive of President Bola Tinubu, and the ministry has since taken full possession of the properties.

Dangiwa stated that the next step was to conduct a thorough integrity test on the buildings to assess their structural soundness, alongside an evaluation of the estate’s infrastructure and auxiliary facilities.

“We want to take the houses to a particular level of semi-finished before we disburse them to the Nigerian public,” he said.

He announced that a technical committee to carry out the assessment would be inaugurated same date with a four-week deadline to complete the task and upon completion of the assessment, the ministry will secure funding to complete the houses and begin their allocation.

The minister added that while some of the houses will be allocated to meet specific government needs, the majority will be made available to the public.

He assured that the process for the formal disposal of the houses will be announced once the assessment is concluded.

Dangiwa also revealed that the Federal Ministry of Housing’s Renewed Hope Portal will be used for the allocation process.

“Through the portal, Nigerians can access, choose the house they want, and select a suitable payment option,” he said.
