FG Declares Thursday Public Holiday to Mark 2025 Democracy Day, Celebrates 26 Years of Civil Rule

The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday a public holiday in celebration of the 2025 Democracy Day.

 

This announcement was made in Abuja on Sunday through a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Mrs. Magdalene Ajani.

 

Speaking on behalf of the Federal Government, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians on maintaining 26 uninterrupted years of democratic governance.

 

“June 12 stands as a symbol of our nation’s enduring journey toward truth, justice, peace, and a secure future,” the minister stated.

 

He further emphasized that the past 26 years reflect the resilience, strength, and determination of the Nigerian people, describing it as a period filled with renewed hope.

 

The minister also reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s dedication to upholding democratic principles anchored on the freely expressed will of the people, which shapes Nigeria’s political, social, economic, and cultural landscape.
