“Fela Kuti is the only African artist greater than me” — Burna Boy brags during livestream

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, has declared that Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti is the only African artist greater than him.

The ‘Last Last’ hitmaker made the statement during a livestream chat with Australian streamer, Playboymax, where he referred to Fela as “the king.”

“He [Fela Kuti] is the king. He is the only one [African artist] who is greater than me. He is the only one,” Burna Boy said confidently.

His statement has since sparked mixed reactions online — while some fans praised his confidence and acknowledged Fela’s influence on modern Afrobeat, others criticised the self-acclaimed African Giant for what they called “pride disguised as respect.”
