The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has strengthened its workforce with the recruitment of 130 academic and non-academic personnel as part of efforts to enhance productivity and improve service delivery.
The Rector, Alhaji Sani Usman, disclosed this during an interview in his office, noting that the new appointments were aimed at addressing manpower gaps and boosting operational efficiency across departments.
He explained that since assuming office, the institution has maintained industrial harmony while also creating new directorates with appointed directors to oversee their operations. Usman added that one of his early actions in office was the approval and payment of outstanding allowances owed to security personnel and cleaners to cushion economic hardship and improve morale. He stated that the management has continued the regular payment of salaries and allowances for these staff members.
Highlighting academic milestones, the Rector revealed that the Polytechnic has secured 100 percent accreditation for all its programmes from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
He further disclosed that the institution introduced several new programmes and successfully obtained full accreditation for them. These include National Diploma (ND) in Urban and Regional Planning; Higher National Diploma (HND) in Crime Management; HND in Animal Production; HND in Fisheries; ND in Procurement and Supply Chain Management; ND in Organic Agriculture; and HND in Cyber Security.
On infrastructure development, Usman said construction of new student hostels is underway. The male hostel project is being executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, while the female hostel is funded through a special intervention by the Federal Government.
Additional projects completed under his leadership include the installation of solar-powered street lights across campus, completion of the Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) Complex, expansion of the NUD building, construction of the Environmental Technology Complex, and completion of the second gate, as well as the School of Environmental road and drainage system.
To enhance staff development and welfare, the Rector noted that the Polytechnic has introduced a welfare package featuring a soft loan scheme, established a Career Services unit, strengthened the Office of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, and appointed an Acting Managing Director for the Polytechnic Consultancy Services.
