Fear as hoodlums burn car, two motorcycles in Ebonyi

Some hoodlums on Wednesday burnt a car and two motorcycles in different locations in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

The hoodlums, suspected to be pro-separatist group members, were said to have operated on bicycles.

They reportedly burnt a car along Hilltop Road and a motorcycle at Hilton Junction in the metropolis.

Sources said the hoodlums went round from 4am to 6am, taking residents unawares in unleashing violence.

It was learned that the motorcycle and car owners were beaten up by the hoodlums.

It was further learnt that another set of hoodlum, around the same time, burnt down another motorcycle near Ebebe Junction, after Nnodo Secondary School, in the Ebonyi Local Government Area on Wednesday.

A source in the area said the situation caused panic among residents.

He said, “There is panic in my area following the burning of a motorcycle near Ebebe Junction. Some motorists and passersby refused to take the road.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Loveth Odah, said the vehicle caught fire due to overheating and not as a result of any attack by hoodlums.

She said she was not aware of the incidents involving the motorcycle and promised to get back to our correspondent.

She had yet to do so as of press time.
