In a bid to curb the rising wave of cross-border crimes, the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, on Thursday convened an emergency G-7 security meeting at the Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja.
The meeting brought together Commissioners of Police from the six states bordering the FCT, State Directors of the Department of State Services (DSS), and Commandants of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The G-7 security framework links the FCT with Niger, Kogi, Kaduna, Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau States, creating a coordinated front against threats such as kidnapping, banditry, human and drug trafficking, proliferation of arms, car theft, and religious extremism.
According to a statement by FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the session critically assessed progress made so far in tackling cross-border crimes and explored both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to strengthen joint operations across the affected states.
At the end of the deliberations, the security chiefs reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining proactive and intelligence-driven measures aimed at ensuring the safety of residents in the FCT and its neighboring states.
