Ex-Commissioner emerges new Plateau PDP Chairman

A former Plateau State Commissioner for Works, Chris Hassan, has been reelected as chairman of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The Chairman of the electoral panel, Olusola Akanmode, announced the results of the state congress which started on Saturday, late on Monday.

Hassan won the election when it first held in August 2020 however, a leadership crisis which trailed the conduct of the polls led to the dissolution of the executive by the National Working Committee of the party, June 2021.

The NWC appointed the Senator Tunde Ogbeha-led Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the party in the state.

While announcing the results, the chairman of the electoral panel said that Hassan polled 1,526 votes to defeat two other contestants including a former National Assembly member, Bitrus Kaze and a former Special Adviser, Monica Gwom who polled 186 and 8 votes respectively.

Akanmode said “We came in from Abuja with accreditation list and at the end of the day,1, 819 delegates were accredited. For the position of chairman, Chris Hassan scored 1526 votes; Bitrus Kaze scored 186 votes and Monica Gwom scored 8 votes.

“Having scored the highest number of votes, I hereby declare Chris Hassan as the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in plateau state.”
