Former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government (SSG) and 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, has officially resigned from the party.
In a resignation letter dated July 21 and obtained by The Nation on Monday, Kashim did not state specific reasons for his decision but expressed appreciation to the party leadership and his ward executives for their support and trust.
“After careful thought, I’ve decided to resign from the PDP. I intend to explore other ways to serve our people with dedication, integrity, and the fear of God,” the letter read.
Kashim was initially the PDP’s governorship candidate in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections. However, he voluntarily stepped down for Governor Bala Mohammed, who rejoined the race after his unsuccessful attempt to clinch the PDP presidential ticket. Kashim later resumed his role as SSG and was an active figure in the governor’s re-election campaign.
In January 2025, he resigned from the position of SSG — a move he stated was made at the directive of Governor Mohammed — sparking speculation about a possible shift in his political path.
Although Kashim has yet to reveal his next political move, political watchers believe he may be preparing for a 2027 governorship bid under a different platform.
His exit from the PDP adds to the ongoing realignments within the political landscape in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 elections.
